Rupert left YFA in September 2000 to join the Army. Initially he was based at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate, Yorkshire where he successfully completed 'basic training', covering five pillars: Military training; Education and common core skills; Leadership and adventurous training; Character development and Trade training.  In December 2000 he was promoted to the rank of 'Junior Soldier Lance Corporal'. He continued to excel during the coming months and was again promoted to a 'Junior Soldier Corporal' in April 2001. This coincided with him receiving the prestigious red beret of the Parachute Regiment. He will be allowed to wear the paratrooper wings in their full glory once he has finished the 'P' company training which coincides with phase two.

In summer 2001 he passed out of the AFC, becomeing a fully trained soldier. He is now undergoing training at the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) in Caterick, Yorkshire for phase two training to further his infantry skills. This will put him in good stead for operational service.

He states that he has no kids; is not married; has no money and 'could have done better' in his GCSE's. He plans to stay in the army for 12 years and then pursue a career in with WMFS, hoping to complete the 'Green Goddess' course during his time in the army. He is also continuing his Silver D of E with the Army.
