George initially worked at Dependon Motors in Perry Barr, whilst attending college studying the three year NVQ levels 1-3 in Light Vehicle Mechanics. He then moved Heartlands Ford for a further year. 

In 1998 he became a Master Fitter with Kwik Fit, before quickly being promoted to a Supervisor. In May 1999 he was further promoted to Master Manager responsible for his own branch in Birmingham.  

In June 1999 George became a father to a baby boy.
