Summer 2001

Don't forget to take a look at our information and learning pages to make sure you know the difference between a LFF and an ACFO, or discover what could happen to you if you break the rules of the YFA.

We would like to say a big hello to the people at Hebburn YFA in Newcastle who recently emailed us here at Aston to ask many, many questions. The sudden interest leads to a little bit of investigating and we discovered that the Leading Firefighter & Sub Officer exams were fast approaching.  Don't worry [Sarah], we won't tell a soul how you did so well!!

Due to the outbreak and spread of 'Foot & Mouth disease' our plans for the year had to be re-written rather quickly. While most of the countryside ground to a halt, Sutton Park near to us remained unaffected and has been host to some days out for all age groups.

Our apologies for not keeping this page up-to-date, more information will be live and online soon.

Members of the Adventure Service Challenge group have started writing to YFA pen pals in Australia. The Australians, from Lancefield - Victoria, contacted Aston YFA after finding our site online.  Following discussions with their Officer in Charge, Barry Barnett, various materials have passed between the continents, ranging from fire prevention information for the two brigades to chocolate bars, t-shirts to baseball caps. While there are discussions continuing to work out a way of operating a competition without leaving our respective stations, the Australian crew are looking at the possibility of visiting Europe in the near future and all we can do is keep our fingers crossed that we are on their 'to do' list. Watch this space for details in the future.

Way, way back in January we reported on Darren Buckley, an ex A2 YFA member starting his probationary period at A1 Central following successfully passing out of Brigade Training School. We are now very pleased to report that David Smith, another ex A2 YFA member has also successfully donned BTC's red epaulettes this year and has now started his probationary period at A6 Ward End. Now his initial training period has finished, David has also returned to us as an instructor on a Tuesday evening to assist with drill.

and finally ...

... why don't you use the guestbook to drop us a line and let us know what  you think of the site, any improvements or extra features you would like  to see in the future or even something you have written which you would  like to be added to the site yourself. We are always open to suggestions!
