All Change
The last few months have seen a change round of Instructors at the 3 Coventry branches. Carl Rylatt has stepped down as Officer-in-Charge (OiC) of B3 (Coventry) YFA after 10 years and moved up to B5 (Foleshill) YFA as an Instructor. June Linwood, also from B3, who just could not bear being away from Carl, has joined him!! Tim Parsons has moved from B6 (Binley) to B3 as OiC and has been joined by Lay Instructor Simon Stott from B5. Dick Lloyd has resigned as Officer-in-Charge at B6 and Dave Venus has taken his place.

Meanwhile, here at A2 (Aston) YFA, Scott Walker decided he didn't want to remain as Officer-in-Charge and following some discussions, Graham Hickman from D8 (West Bromwich) YFA has agreed to take over as OiC. Unfortunately, just as he was about to start, he damaged his knee on a mountain experience course and has had to have an operation. Upon his fitness returning, he took over the reins mid-October. |

Over at D9 (Dudley), FF Andy Brown has joined the merry band of YFA instructors creating mayhem in the community rooms.

Camping in 2001 & beyond
It has been suggested to the YPLO that we should have a camp for all West Midlands YFA branches 2001. Surprisingly the suggestion came from a request from the Young Firefighters in Denmark who came over on an exchange visit to Coventry in 1999. They have had a number of camps with the German Jugendfeurwehr and would like to come to the West Midlands next year instead. The subject will be discussed at the YFA Instructors meeting in November. So if you would like your branch to attend, let your Instructors know.

National Camp 2002
The next National camp will be held in 2002 and is to be hosted jointly by both West Midlands and Warwickshire Fire Services. To date a suitable site has yet to be discovered! |
Well Done!
Earlier this year, a number of branch's had a fund raising day for the NSPCC 'Full Stop' campaign, and so far a total of £860.50 has been raised with some more to come in from E5 (Wolverhampton) YFA.
The YFA has always been very good at raising money and we have a few more ideas up our sleeves for next year. Of course its up to you as individuals to decide who you want to raise money for, but this has been a good exercise and has managed to bring groups together.

Instructor
Training
The subject of Instructor training has been at the top of the agenda
for some time now and at long fast we are ready to commence the YFA
Instructor training course. The course will be obligatory for all
instructors and is modular based, so that you can achieve it over a
period of time. Each instructor will receive a training log book
will be used to record all training sessions and qualifications
achieved. For those wishing to take it, an RSA Occupational Trainer
and Assessor award will be available. This will be coordinated and
assessed by the Brigade Training School staff through the YPLO. It
must be emphasized that this course applies to all lay instructors
as well as operational personnel and the brigade will be as flexible
as possible to the training needs and requirements of the
individual. Wherever possible we will use YFA units for the training
sessions.
