10 Years

Although the Fire Service makes funds available for training, most of the money used at Aston YFA is raised by the members

Car washes have always been a core part of the YFA. On a Saturday we can frequently be found either assisting a division fire station car wash or at the local shopping center which has been home to our car washes for eight years, since it opened. Come rain or shine our members can wash over 400 cars a day, raising money which supports local good causes and provides the funding for YFA activities. In 1997 we selected one local charity, "St Basils", which provides sheltered accommodation for young, homeless people. They received a donation from each car wash performed during the year.

External funding is always greatly appreciated, and in our first decade we have received a grant from BBC Children In Need. Later in the year a group of members were interviewed live on BBC1 and on BBC Radio WM to explain how we had benefited from the capital equipment grant. More recently, a grant from The National Lottery enabled us to purchase equipment to further improve our training.
