The first was a
sponsored twenty mile walk linking the seven stations on
"A"
Division, and proved a novel way by which members
learned details about each station and experience at first sight
the station area they serve.
In
July, a reunion party saw past and present members and instructors
enjoying an informal evening at Central Fire Station. One hundred
and fifty people experienced simulated interactive computer games
and had a go on the karaoke. Two instructors, with more than
seventeen years service between them, cut the superb 10th
anniversary cake.
August saw many
members attend a five day camp/cruise. Two groups spent half the
week aboard a canal boat on the canal between Birmingham and
Kidderminster including a visit to the Black Country Museum. The
remaining half of the week was spent at the Frank Chapman Centre,
Bewdley and the Pioneer Centre, Cleobury Mortimer experiencing
more abseiling/climbing, team games and a barbeque.
The
formal celebration at Sutton Coldfield Fire Station provided an
opportunity for two
hundred guests to watch first hand the skills
of the young firefighters in practical displays, followed by the
presentation of awards to members. October saw the fifth event, a
ladder climb, with members climbing the height of the world's
highest mountain, Mount Everest (8, 848metres) within the local
shopping center car park. More pictures from the display, ladder
climb and camp / cruise can be found in our online Photo
Gallery.
